When you go out for a Mammogram & come home with a Drivers license

And yes this way is much better than the other way around!

A couple of weeks ago i had to go to my three monthly check up with Dr Nala. Since we are still a bit worried about recurrence she checks me pretty good and if i have a little ache or pain she will MAKE SURE she tests and checks it before i can wander the streets again for three months...

At this visit i had some troubles with my breasts maybe because i found Aldi (a great German grocery store, were i bought HEAPS of German/Belgium chocolate) and i had been pretty much stuffing myself with that chocolate. And yes i even brought some chocolate bars to the hospital that day (you never know when it gets really scary) and since i don't smoke anymore i felt i needed some back-up besides my wonderful husband.

Anyway, Dr Nala thought it would be wise, to lay off the chocolate (because it can cause tenderness in the breast area) for a while AND do a Mammogram!

No...
No...
NO...
I KNOW hundreds of women do it every day, but I'm just a girl (don't want my boobies to get squished, they just got big since i stopped smoking, like everything else by the way)! Let me do the ultrasound and you can see everything you need and I'll be fine!

Dr Nala said "No", let's do a Mammogram this time... "OK"...

So the next week i go to the hospital in Bluffton to get my mammogram done. I didn't sleep for 3 nights and i felt pretty cranky. Also because at the farm things where NOT going like they should and it was just overall a bad week. But i went and sat down. This really nice nurse comes up to me and asks if i might be pregnant...?

Uhmmm, "No i don't think so". "Well, didn't you get your test done before the Mammogram?".
"Uhmmm, no, I nobody said anything about that". I asked her if we could just do the Ultrasound???

Turned out we couldn't do that  and i needed to get my blood test done (couldn't just pee over a stick?!?) and had to RESCHEDULE! My day didn't get better at all!  I didn't have my breast squished but i also had to make a new appointment, not sleep for several days and probably eat more chocolate because i was stressed and thus more pain!?!

Oh well...

Driving home from the Hospital i was pretty (read: really) cranky and from the corner of my eye i spotted a police car, and thinking, hmm i need to get my drivers licence. I have a Dutch one but it was (a little bit) expired and i still needed to get my Indiana one. And since i already wasted the whole day with not getting a mammogram done, i thought "Why not?!?"

Got into the BMV, had my social security number, a bill with my name and address, my visa, my passport, my Dutch drivers license and my translation of my Dutch drivers license. I was good to go! Until the nice lady at the BMV told me i needed TWO proofs of addresses... "you got to be kidding me?!" And she sent me away told me to come back with two bills or a bank statement or something.

Driving home i was even more (as in fuming) cranky. And then i passed my bank. I literally saw that little light bulb above my head going on and thought, "hehe I'm gonna print of a statement and go back to the BMV!".

And so i did, parked my car, right in FRONT of the door of the BMV (not the most smartest move but it felt right at the time) and walked in and showed the lovely lady all my papers AGAIN plus the statement. And yes i could do my written test.

Did i mention i didn't study, as in i don't even own a manual...

I turned in my papers and after 10 minutes she called me and told me i passed!!! I just couldn't believe my ears, because i was figuring on coming back at least 6 times before me passing this test and here i was getting my (really ugly) picture taking and with my drivers license permit coming to me in the mail in 10 days... hehe...

Now i have to wait (drive around in my fantastic car) for 6 months and then i can do my actual driving test...

And that is how you go for a mammogram and come home with a drivers license (well, permit is almost the same, right?)

And it is friday again so.... HOP HOP HOP to Verde Farm for Farm Friend Friday!!!

It must be a thing with Mammograms and police. I had to go for a Mammogram and it was in a part of a city I am not familiar with. I was turning on to the freeway and was cut off and went through a red light. I was pulled over and the policeman was upset and I explained just as upset I just had a mammogram. He was so flustered he let me go no ticket. He looked so embarrassed,Lol

What an ordeal. Now when do you eat the chocolate?

At least you got something on your to-do list checked off! Yippee!!! You're legal again!

A round-about way to get a drivers' license, that's for sure. But now you have in case of another cop encounter. All the best with the mammogram -- the new machines don't hurt nearly as much as the old ones did, I hope they have them where you are.--Inger

Very clever. I never knew it worked like that. Next time I go for my mammogram I'll know to stop by the BMV too:) You are so funny. Now go have some more chocolate and have a nice day too.

Great story! And you can't have too much chocolate, right?!

Ok, that was just amazing. And after all that, you can have your chocolate? I hope??

You are going to hate me - but, better to lay off the chocolate, and coffee and caffeine drinks, at least till your mammogram. Some of us gals, I am an example, get a condition like bean bag breast. The reason I don't drink coffee any more. Painful during a mammogram! I eat some chocolate now, but, it's the dark kind and I don't get carried away and will indulge in a Milky Way when the urge can't be quelled!

Thanks for reminding me that I am due for a mammogram. Maybe I'd better check my driver's license too. Oh, and I'm sure I need to stock up on some good chocolate.
Congrats on passing the written test with no studying.

Well, at least it wasn't a wasted day! Are you still off of chocolate? How is everyone holding up with you being off of chocolate? Any casualties yet? Love you!

i am the same way with chocolate or any caffeine. black tea is ok but forget the green tea. so i know exactly how that feels...and about the mammograms. the ultrasounds are far better for you but for some reason the docs want that money. so if the mammogram shows something then off we go to the ultrasound...ok, why not skip a step and skip the radiation levels as well? i used to pay for my ultrasounds but then i found breast thermography to work pretty good. if there is any issues with the body it shows up as inflammation first as they are now talking about...so this is a procedure that uses a special camera that the 'picture' shows all sorts of colors....a lab reads it in chicago i think....then if there is the inflammation, go to the next step. cheap procedure and no substantial amount of money is made so the mainstream docs don't pay attention to it but alternative docs do... i think i paid only $75 for mine. need to go in again. have done two so far. good luck!

Girl you DESERVE chocolate! Whether you can have it or not is another thing. Squished boobs or a visit to the DMV are about the same in my book.

What a day! Glad you got your license taken care of though...you are so funny!
However... now I'm gonna get on my soap box...don't put off the mammo! :) Having a strong family and personal history of B C and other issues, it's worth the 30 seconds of discomfort!

I am your newest follower on both your blogs! Thank you so much for stopping by and following me. I can't wait to read more about your life and what you have read. I have recently been dying to start reading again but life with a five year old makes me feel like I am only reading children's books over and over. Have a great weekend!

So all and all it turns out to be a great day. The drivers test can be tough - even for natives.

Hey, I used to live in Bluffton....but it was in SC!
What a day - I would have been fuming. Yup, chocolate might have helped a bit!
Congrats on the license!

gowestferalwoman said...

Lol and you didnt even have to use your chocolate to bribe anyone! I agree; Id rather get my license over a mammogram anyday!

The biggest prob I have with mammograms is that after your first "poptart" is done and squished they have to do it again on the other side!! OUCH! Im cringing thinking about it!

Funny story. I'm glad I'm a man! Of course, with us it's the ole prostate. Sigh.

Cindy gets so stressed out over her mammograms that I have to make her go. Great post!

Just because lots of women get them every day, doesn't mean lots of women want to get them every day. ;)

I keep saying if they did that to a man's family jewels, they'd darn sure quick find a better way to do it!

I love your flowers, Leontien. Thank you for your visit. That tree that you admired sits at the front gate of our retirement property. I love it, too. :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Leontien...Under the circumstances, I understand how you feel. Our daughter had a double mastectomy at age 37. I'm sure she does not look forward to mammograms, but it's something she needs to do...as do you. Sorry there is no getting around it. As for chocolate...caffeine can have an impact on some more than others. Do what you've got to do...

Great photos. You tell a good story.

Girl you are TOO COOL.

And Mammograms are no big deal. Really. Just don't wear deodorant that day. Messes up the machine or something. That's the sum total of my experience. :)

Trisha said...

One thing done is better then none! Smart thinking on getting your second proof of address. I probably would have just went home & ate more chocolate :)

We have those days don't we? Mammograms are not that bad- just grit your teeth, breathe in and its all over! Good luck!

Do you know the word carafe? It is similar. The carafe is for serving. A decanter is a kind of carafe for wine.
